Can't Play Media

For some reason the past couple weeks anytime I try to play a media file no matter if it be video or music, or no matter the program I get this same general error:
Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct.

Obviously it's not already in use and I'm of course the administrator on my own laptop. All the files are located locally on my laptop's hard drive. So any clues?

Haven't heard of this before but I'll try to take a stab at it.

Go to : Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound and then something should pop up saying certain enhancements are interfering with something Terminate the program? Click yes and try it again.

Otherwise, do you have a different media/sound player?

If yes, re-associate the files you're trying to play with other media player.

I'll look into it more tomorrow.
