HD 5770s can be had pretty cheap these days. I've been able to run everything flawlessly on mine.

I find this funny cause everyone tells me to upgrade mine but I can still run everything at max settings at native resolution so I don't see a reason to.

I dunno if you're an MMO guy, but tried the FFXIV beta? That thing is so badly programmed you need to upgrade just to break even. I had to - gasp - turn a thing or two down (shadows, anyone? sigh), and even then it chokes a lot. There's only so much upgrading the user can do to fix that before it's up to SE, though.

The incentive? Software mouse (unless you download a player-made patch).

My framerate's pretty good in the games I care about, definitely. It just drops in heavy spell-graphic situations, like a few specific WoW raids.

EDIT: o look, how handy:

I don't recommend the 5750. Check the 5770 on the low end:

If you're patient you can pick them up at around $100 (they were actually giving them away free with a monitor a few weeks ago. I was le sad that I'd already bought mine).

I haven't tried the FF14 beta though I did read about how horrid it is for PC.

Those comparisons tell me for a three year old card (which is like a decade in computer hardware) the GTS still holds up pretty nicely. You may not be getting 60 frames but it's not shitting the bed. The thing with me is that I will play a game at 20/25 frames if it means everything on max. Most games are still playable at that rate. Though, I'm talking single player only here, online play I will turn it down.

Everyone should just by this: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6275345.html?tag=result%3Btitle%3B0 :P

Line is more important than age. The HD 4800s are over two years old but still more powerful and more expensive than a 5770.

My tortured two year old HD 4850 hasn't missed a beat yet.

Not sure if it's a great deal but off slickdeals:

http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/39161/a ... video-card

5750 for 90$ after MIR

You can find a 4850 1GB for about 90-100$ usually.

It's definitely a good deal but I don't know that there's much point spending $90 on a card that's only marginally better than the one she already has.

Wow, here's a really good deal:

Best price I've seen on one of those. If my PSU was better I'd buy it to crossfire my card.

I wish Intel mobo's had better Crossfire support so I could upgrade to Crossfire 5770's but you need a 200 mobo for that.

550 Antec. I probably wouldn't attempt it with anything less than 700. Or maybe a Corsair 600. I base this on absolutely no information btw. I just know each card has 2 power plugs each so it sounds like it needs juice to me.

Btw the 5770 is 115$ now.

Two 4870s only use 450W in an average system at load. 600W gives you plenty of overhead.

I think I have an extra 600+W PSU. Let me know if you want it.

I was thinking more of the i7 and motherboard. An X4 setup is comparable and half the price. The RAM is way overkill though, yeah.

Nope. We had the right people but they couldn't commit the necessary time, so it would have just been me and Tirion and Fled again, with erwt and Jac doing art. Fled made an amazing hero selection, Tirion had the core gameplay done and I remade the stuff I lost during the beta and started drafting some abilities, but that's as far as it went.

Spoiler:
