I think it is very rare for people to actually be able to retire in financial terms these days. People still do it though, hell I would do it if I could just sacrifice steak for the rest of my life in order to be able to nothing all day every day (except golf, I must still be able to golf

).
I'm a good ol' software engineer. I work for a really small company so I do a lot of different things designing and developing software. I feel I'm actually pretty lucky, most new software eng grads go to places like IBM and RIM and though some may get development jobs, people usually start off with boring testing positions. I'm horribly underpaid, but my commute is a 10 min walk so I feel it's a good compromise.
How are your kids? Safe and sound I hope.
