Favorite cakes?

Postby Ryzel » Mon Nov 22, 2010 11:05 pm

I prefer the pineapple upside-down variety myself. Unfortunately I have very few opportunities to enjoy them, but when I do it is divine.

I just noticed that this section of the forum is the appropriate and designated place to discuss cake and all its deliciousness, yet there are no threads here to discuss it! So let's diversify this Bloody Stump and make it creamy. Mmmm.

EDIT-Discussions about pie are not acceptable.

I love Paula Deen, if only because she has no reservations about making the most awesome bad for you food ever. She ain't afraid to fry food in lard.

Because she also has no reservations about being Photoshopped into an alien for magazines either.

Anyway, the version my aunt makes doesn't have marshmallows but instead has really awesome fudge-like icing.

I bake my kruidkoek with apple, boiled raisins and lots of spices. Mostly cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and ginger. Beyond that it's just flour, water and sugar.

Also, dick jokes.

(har har har)

Seriously though? Someone actually eats fruitcake?

I don't give a crap about cakes as long as there's not too much frosting I'll eat it. Actually I hate cheesecakes too.

Is it too late to make gay jokes?

Cakes are great but I'm finding here people have stopped bying them for parties. Cup cakes are the way to go; they are the far superior party sweet.

Cupcakes are boss. We usually have a cake as well but given the choice 3/4 of the people go for the cupcakes. There's heaps of good cupcakes places around here, all make good quality ones. They are basically minature cakes which are already cut up in appropriate serving sizes. What else do you need?

Coffee cake. Also, rum cake. Further, pie is better. Lastly, this cake discussion sucks.

I disagree with cupcakes being boss. Cupcakes always seem to be just not quite big enough, leaving you wanting more. Miniature cake, yes. Fulfilling? No. Plus the frosting always seems to be excessive, on a cupcake, damaging the experience of eating the cake.

Really? I find that cake has more excessive layers of icing throughout the entirety of the cake, where as cupcakes just have icing on top. Plus if you get an end piece you'll not only have icing on top but down the side of your piece as well.

Cupcakes seem to be all the rage these days. Even for weddings people have been opting out of the usual wedding cake and going for cupcakes.

Cupcakes having too much icing is like saying cakes have too much icing, depends on the cake. The cup cakes around here are usually big; the base of the cup cake is roughly a little smaller than the size of my hand. The best bit about it is what gandalf said that you get every piece of the cupcake. With a cake you could get the middle or the side so the pieces are all different and some in the wrong proportions.

Cupcake is the superior cake, end.

Wouldn't get one for a wedding though, seems tacky.

I think we can all agree that cupcakes with some kind of tasty, creamy filling in them are the ultimate winner.
