No. This is just frantic conservatives trying to cause a ruckus.

We've been kowtowing to the Saudis for as long as I can remember. You tell me whether it's caused trouble.

No, it's not that. The Saudi King prohibits bowing as a form of greeting, seeing as how bowing is for Allah. Obama bowed to him, as opposed to the customary hug/kiss I think that Bush did. Or maybe it's a handshake. Either way, bowing equalled a slight gaffe, while some Conservatives think it's proof Obama is the three-backed beast slouching towards Bethlehem.

The others are also incidents, although the Queen should be happy to be touched by Michelle since Michelle has been touched by Oprah who is the queen of America.

Some canadian already touched the queen for a photo before mrs. obama and it was a huge scandal.... in england. It wasn't even his initiative either, the photographer asked him to put his arm around her

So Obama simultaneously:
1) Treated the Saudi king like Allah
2) Openly defied the Saudi king
3) Accomplished the above while looking foolish rather than clever.

That's awesome.

TheRaven7 wrote:People talk about Oprah's enormous influence on American culture. While this is absolutely true, I don't think it's quite as dramatic as it's made out to be. Remember what a resounding flop The Secret was.

It might not be absolute, but it is dramatic. She determines what the housewives talk about, where the housekeeping money goes and what the important news is. She might have let herself in with a shitty fad (nothing new here), but the reason she lost popularity over this was because this time it actually garnered criticism from all layers of society, not just one. No matter, as she is so deeply entrenched in American culture that she never loses popularity for long, unless a revolution were to happen

Then again, she is just the marionette of a much larger company. Their complexity makes media personalities interesting objects of study.

WOOP DOOP ARMCHAIR SOCIOLOGY (at which point I have to remind myself that all sociology is armchair sociology).

If this is the incident I think it is, I believe the scandal was that the photographer asked her to do a few photos without the crown on.

What kind of fucking queen takes her crown off for a photoshoot?

yeah.
