When I look back at my history of gaming, the fondest memories I have, if not the only ones remaining, were moments of brilliant maneuver, winning against all numerical odds, not in favour of them.

Diablo3 is a tragic game. Where it is really good becomes unimportant compared to where it is really bad: sense of accomplishment through substance of challenge.

I have always wondered why diablo-esque games have never evoluted scenario the way they did to the avatar. Makes you think the developers suffer a form of compulsion neurosis alike to the players.

So diablo 3 gets boring pretty quickly. I haven't touched it in a week and a half. There's no end game to speak of. No point in making new characters since you always have access to all skills. The itemization is one dimensional. The uniques all suck. There are no interesting combos to try. All classes stack DPS/main stat with some vit/all-res on the side, making every character the same for everyone. Since it's nigh impossible to be "skillful" due to the retarded undodgeable melee hits, the game is nothing more than a boring gear check.

Is this how WoW plays? Because goddamn if I wouldn't rather pound nails through my dick.

WoW requires more skill than D3 does. At least, soloing instances on my level 60 hunter did, 7 years ago.

Judge Kaz sentenced Diablo to death.

The finality of consequence in this game's design made the genre's failure glaringly obvious. I really want to make a dungeon crawler, never been this confident about what game I want to make. Not that anyone would care, but I'll be very happy playing it.

Just how popular DayZ is.

Sounds interesting, but god damn it I'm really starting to get bored with superheroes.

Wasn't there already a superhero MMO a few years back?

Where you play as cool dudes from the comics instead of creating a lame dude of your own?

Ah, that's right, it was the one where you made a lame dude of your own.

So with a new lead designer and the promise of customization, the recently announced d3 expansion might be playable?

Doubtful. The presence of the AH will always ruin the experience of Diablo, unless you abstain from using it. It's far too efficient and impersonal for its own good.

Then again, LoD "fixed" D2, for all it's worth.

It made uniques and sets really good but rares really bad because of the addition of a billion shit mods. 5% chance to cast level 1 fireball on hit! 10 charges of level 2 icebolt! weeeeeeeeeee

Knowing how terrible HotS turned out I'd be surprised. At the most it'll inject life in the game for maybe two weeks.

NEWS: Blizzard shuts down AH for expansion.

Blizzard wrote:When we initially designed and implemented the auction houses, the driving goal was to provide a convenient and secure system for trades. But as we've mentioned on different occasions, it became increasingly clear that despite the benefits of the AH system and the fact that many players around the world use it, it ultimately undermines Diablo's core game play: kill monsters to get cool loot. With that in mind, we want to let everyone know that we've decided to remove the gold and real-money auction house system from Diablo III.

We feel that this move along with the Loot 2.0 system being developed concurrently with Reaper of Souls™ will result in a much more rewarding game experience for our players.

We're working out the details of how the auction house system will be shut down, but we wanted to share the news as soon as we made the decision in order to give everyone as much advance notice as possible. Please note that the shutdown will occur on March 18, 2014. We will keep everyone informed as we work through this process.

Josh Mosqueira and I wanted to provide everyone with a little more information behind this decision, so please have a look at the video, and stay tuned to this site for further updates in the months ahead.
