Steam has sales on old shit, by which time you can still find whatever it is proportionally cheaper elsewhere. But price has nothing to do with why I don't give Valve my money. It just so happens that they screw you on prices in addition to everything else.

L4D was like 60% off on a weekend deal about 4 months after release

Ah, a matter of principles.

I still enjoy the game very much, and I look forward to have the old L4D maps implemented in L4D2.

Potentially the first DLC for L4D2.

L4D2 could be had at 40% off the day it came out. And L4D2 is actually a complete game! Its marketing line is even "This game isn't missing a bunch of shit like L4D was!"

Does L4D2 still have bosses? If not for them I would've played the first game. Boss zombies are fucking stupid though.

They're not bosses, they have special abilities. Only the tank is any hard to kill. Witch too I guess, if you suck. They're pretty rare compared to the other 3, who are very easy to kill.

Zombies with special abilities are stupid. Resident Evil has the same problem.

I just realized was being dumb - it doesn't matter where you buy it as long as it has a code for Steam. As long as its somehow linked to my Steam profile making it so it follows me around wherever I go is great. Makes installing stuff way easier and it remembers preferences and all that.

In fact, the only game I bought on Steam was Bioshock for 10$ (or was it 5? I think it was actually 5) and Left 4 Dead for like 20-30$.

When Valve routinely sells TF2 for 10$ they can do no evil in my eyes. They are literally giving away the best multiplayer game ever made as far as I'm concerned.

L4D is overrated IMO but whatever. I'm glad they are charging a lot for it because it hurts a group of gamers I refer to as the "coop pansies". MrShihtzu is familiar with my rant about these people. They are the kind of people who buy Fable 2 to play with their friend. The people who spend more time socializing over voice chat than doing anything useful in the game. Don't get me wrong - I like to crack jokes and talk about stuff in game but it's usually related to the game. They are the kind of people who rather play Lego Indiana Jones with some other douchebag instead of Bioshock.

Anyhow - let them suffer!

Of course they discount old games, especially small ones like TF2 and Portal. Everybody does this. Want to play 4e D&D, for example? Now you can get the first two PHBs for $20! That's buy one, get one free...and it comes with a coupon for $12 off a year's D&D Insider subscription! This is basic marketing, man. They're doing it because it makes them money, not because they're just that cool.

edit: Oh, and the best multiplayer video game ever made is clearly Smash.

Yes. Resident Evil 4 was fun, still haven't played 5 though. besides the point though. I want somebody to make a game that plays like a George Romero movie or 28 days later, not Rambo meets super-zombies.

Yes. Goddamnit that's exactly what I want. Zombie movies are popular for reasons games have yet to tap. I told Kaz we should make a story-heavy zombie RPG but he wasn't into it.

Resident Evil 4 was pretty cool from what I saw of it. Basically, it appeared to be Resident Cthulhu. Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!

Leon, help! AHHHHHHHHH

DON'T WORRY, ASHLEY, I'M COMIN' FOR YA

He should have just let Ashley die in the very beginning. And then come to my house and be my slave.

I'm developing a zombie piece that is going to attempt to be different from zombie genre. I don't know if it will be a short story or developed for screen, but I've told myself I really have to do this. The zombie genre, while great and campy and full of zombie movies, has so much room for growth.

As long as they keep updating it, TF2 can't really be looked at as old.

Plus the day it was released it was 20$ I think. I know the entire Orange Box was 40$. Deal of the century.

The day they released it, it was awesome and it keeps getting better as it evolves. How many other games are like that?

The problem with pricing games in general though is how 50$ is basically the standard (or 60$ for a console game). Doesn't matter if its Fallout 3 or some rehashed version of a sport's game.

I wasn't excited about it but it's a decent idea, sure. Combat's gonna be pretty dull with just normal zombies though.

I can't see how the gameplay in L4D could've been fun for long without the special infected - grab a shotgun, run and shoot, and when facing an overwhelming crowd of zombies just duck into a tight corner and defend.

Oh wait, that was exactly what happened in versus.

Those zombie "bosses" serve to spice up the game. Imagine Diablo and Diablo II without the unique monsters.

Torchlight infinite dungeon sucks because there's no boss encounters and few champions. It's still really hard as the normal enemies get incredibly difficult and start one shotting you regardless of what you do (item level capped at 50, player level capped at 100, but now I'm fighting level 180+ monsters), but it's just boring without fighting zomgcool monsters.

They made a zombie game that doesn't have zombies with special powers, who all move really slowly, and attack you in huge swarms. It's called Dead Rising and it is boring as hell.

An RPG where you fought the same enemy over and over and over and over...would suck.....right? I'm not having a stroke and missing something am I?

When something is heavily story/situationally driven you can make anything work.

Limited ammo, sanity systems (ala Arkham), endurance, attracting never ending hordes if your not careful with sound, etc.

Turtling doesn't work for example when your on a tight schedule trying to save the person in the next building.

But yeah, if it was essentially 10 levels of Zombie Arena - then no. You better have some variety.

Dead Rising does all this. But it's still boring. Except for the sanity system maybe.

Comparing an ARPG and a side scrolling platformer is kind of silly Cass :S.

Super Mario 3 would suck if it's just the same level layout with nothing but goombas.
