TV/MOVIES WOOT

Postby Dr.Mellifluous » Tue Sep 23, 2008 1:31 pm

So Heroes should probably get its own thread because, well, it already has one. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF THE NEW TV, HUH?

I haven't seen True Blood yet, so far it sounds good but have you guys checked it out? I'm also looking forward to Dexter, Ugly Betty and 30 Rock where I am fucking stoked to see how the end of last season is resolved (gay bomb in the Pentagon=Funniest Shit Evar) and I have a huge gay-crush on Tina Fey, so there is that.

You know what else I like? My parents totally got me into it (after I forced them to watch Firefly, which they then fell in love with) is Bones. I have a soft spot for David Boreanz for two reasons: hotness and Buffy/Angel, but the show has done a good job of bumping Law and Order SVU for my favorite crime procedural. Of course I also just started watching season 1 of Life which is a good contender to upset Bones. We'll see how things turn out.

So what are you guys excited for? Who's watching/gonna watch what?

Ooh, I didn't know True Blood had started (holy crap, it's 3 episodes in? Utorrent, I choose you!). So far I've only watched House and Supernatural--and of course Psych and Stargate Atlantis, but they've been going all summer.

I missed last week's House but I'm gonna watch it tonight hopefully. I find I don't follow shows very well at school. Probably The Office, too.

Felicia Day is on House tonight, and she's just so cute. Last week after House I watched that Fringe show. It isn't terrible, but it's got that hint of mind-fuck Lost business but to a lesser degree. I'll be interested in seeing if it holds me.

Speaking of. WTB more Lost, please.

Mad Men has been back for a while and goddamn I love that show. It is worth having cable for.

I am lonely for my shows. House is back, yay, but no word on Survivor and Lost won't be until next year. I cry little tears of sad, but get my studying done.

Psych? Psych is fucking terrible. And Stargate atlantis is pretty dodgy, however, the black chick in that should have been storm. shitton better than halle berry.

And, relating to the whole thread- t.v generally doesnt do it for me. So, I'll be watching none of it.

I was kind of disappointed with last week's House premiere, hopefully tonight will be better. I think The Office starts this week which I'm looking forward to also, and then Scrubs doesn't start until October I think?

It is amusing how I, an aspiring media expert, watch less TV than the average human being.

There's some new CBS show called The Mentalist that is like Psych only not a comedy.

I watch quite a lot of tv. So uh... I'll comment on stuff.

True Blood - Alright, so far. It's not as good as most of the normal HBO fare. In all honesty, it feels like it should be on the WB minus the tits and swearing.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - best comedy on television. I know everyone's comedic flavors can vary wildly but if you haven't given this show a shot, I'd suggest you do so.

House - House is house. It's always solid.

Fringe - Pretty mediocre so far. It's not the second coming of the X-files, but it's certainly watchable and had the biggest buzz of all the new shows (which to me is kind've sad)

Dexter - The best all around show on television and I can't wait for the third season to start next Sunday.

The Office - Jim and Pam being together is stupid. All the other office relationships = stupid. Toby leaving is stupid. Needs more Dwight and Creed to be win.

30 Rock - I haven't watched more than 2 episodes of season 2. I probably should.

Terminator Sarah Chronicles - mediocre.

Prison Break - mediocre after the first season ended. I have no idea why it's in a 4th season.

Big Bang Theory - solid, solid comedy. 4 geniuses and a hot blonde neighbor. I recommend checking it out. Season 2 just started.

Californication - pretty damn good show. Showtime is definitely ahead of HBO in the awesome department right now. Watching the youngest daughter from the Nanny riding Agent Mulder topless was a bit of a mind fuck.

I dislike virtually all procedurals. CSI, L&O and all their other spin offs. I dont watch the girl shows. Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy, American Idol.

There's other stuff like Chuck, Pushing Daisies, etc that I watch here and there but not enough to really comment on.

South park starts up again in early October. Lost feels like it's a million years away, which sucks.

K done.

So is Fringe worth watching? And honestly, the only time I saw House was when I was in rehab, and this doctor sitting next to me wouldn't stop talking about how "that wouldn't happen, that's impossible, that's not how that's done, that's hilarious." But if both of you guys are watching, I can't really ignore the recommendation.

Oh, and RBM, aren't you watching this season of Dancing with the Stars to see your old colleague compete as the first out gay man on the show? I know Lance still thinks of you fondly.

Fringe is up in the air so far. It's only had two episodes and I only half payed attention to the second one. House is the only procedural I really watch. The character of House is just too awesome to get annoyed by the show's format.

Mell, I will cut you. Fucking... cut you. The only Lance that registers in my mind is that fat fucking bear your hunter carted around.

House is something that I will be sad to see end. My girlfriend and I watch it together, allatime. That and Heroes. But I have to be careful.

Careful not to reveal my love of Hayden Panettiere.

Hugh Laurie has just signed on for another four seasons of House, so it's not going anywhere any time soon.

Watching Fringe as we speak. I like Walter a lot, and there seems to be a lot of backstory a la Lost that I'm interested in. I have a feeling that this is a show that will get better as it goes, so I'd say for now, yeah, I recommend it. But with a grain of salt.

Just watched the first 2 episodes of True Blood. It's interesting so far, but I can see where other people are going to be disappointed, similar to what happened with Hancock.

Snap! I thought that show was canceled or something.

Worst idea for a show may have to be Mentalist. Man who sees things and draws obvious conclusions!

Oh yes, Fringe. Hook up dead person's eyeball to a TV to see their last seen image with no magic/mystery tech involved. Yeah that's way worse than CSI even given the premise of the show.

The man hunt episode was hilarious but I didn't think Charlie and Dee's side of the story with the meat was that funny. But man hunting cricket was comedy goldmine. Gas crisis one was also pretty solid.

But yeah, overall, It's Always Sunny will eat your fucking babies, bitch.

I did recommend it with a grain of salt. LAST NIGHT they did BRAIN SURGERY on some dude in a lab at Harvard. And then bandaged up his head and sent him home.

The conspiracy theories are what's neat. Obvious thus far, but neat. I don't know, maybe it will suck!

More Rescue Me less Shield.

Always Sunny in Philly is totally underrated. Like RBM said, if you haven't given it a shot please do so.

I watched the first three episodes of True Blood yesterday and it's pretty good.

*semi-spoiler*

I was a little disappointed when Bill said that what animates vampires (and humans) is magic. I would've preferred something more along the lines of I Am Legend where the author made an attempt to explain things in scientific terms, but maybe they plan to do that later. Probably not though. I can't imagine how you would explain being physically incapable of entering a human's house without permission.
